The chair will provide vision and leadership in expanding the ECE teaching and research programs, including hiring new faculty and assisting in the planning and the move to a new building. The new home for the ECE department is currently under design and is one of several new buildings in the Charlotte Research Institute that houses the College of Engineering, the Center for Precision Metrology, the Center for Biomedical Engineering Systems, the Center for Optoelectronics and Optical Communications, the Energy Production and Infrastructure Center, and the Center for Bioinformatics. The ECE department is an active participant in the Institute and its Centers. The department’s 28 faculty have well established research programs, and are engaged in interdisciplinary research which is encouraged by the college and university and through a number of interdisciplinary graduate degree programs. The department offers the EE and CE degrees at the B.S. level and EE degrees at the M.S. and Ph.D. levels with approximately 400 undergraduate and 170 graduate students.

Faculty Associate in Electrical Engineering
The University of North Carolina at Charlotte invites applications for the full-time position of Faculty Associate in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) to begin in July 2008. Applicants are expected to have a Master’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or a related field. The position will require the successful applicant to assist in teaching as well as to oversee the operation and maintenance of undergraduate laboratories. Experience with electronics applications is essential and interest in research is desirable.
