The PhD program is designed to provide students with research level expertise in a chosen focus area within Electrical & Computer engineering and breadth of knowledge in related areas. In addition to coursework, a key aspect of the doctoral degree is the research dissertation. Each dissertation is expected to be a significant original contribution on research on a chosen subject which usually leads to archival publications. Successful doctoral students develop the aptitude and confidence for generating new knowledge and practices in academic, industrial, and government environments.
The broad research concentration areas in the electrical and computer engineering department are:
Communication and Signal Processing
Computer Engineering
Control Systems
Analog, Mixed-signal, and RF Electronic Design
Microelectronics and Optoelectronics
Power Systems
